Launch and massive DDos & compensation
What Happened?:
Yesterday the new era of RetroCores had a little hiccup for a start.
The game was set to launch at 17:00 CET.
At 16:59:55 a massive DDos attack strikes the entire network of RetroCores (5 seconds before launch).
We were expecting DDos, however the amount, size and the type of attack was very unexpected.
To be honest, we've never seen that type of DDos before.
But thanks to extensive work on the networks, we managed to keep it stable enough for players to login and start level up.
However, there were certain laggs and even kicks from time to time.
By 21:00 CET, 11% of the network was upgraded and secured against these kinds of DDos.
By 08:00 CET this morning 100% of the network have been upgraded and secured.
Since 08:00 we've had stable network with no loss of packets or disturbances causing troubles for players.
Can't prepare for the unknown:
We are terrible sorry for the troubles of the launch, but as always you can't prepare for the unknwon beforehand.
DDos Attacks and protections against it is always a race, when you manage to protect yourself, DDosers wont just quit and go away.
They will develop new ways to DDos, find new weaknesses to abuse, and new ways to make their DDos-net bigger to have much more force.
And it will always be like that, a race between good and evil.
Due to the size of RetroCores and how many it can get, make it probably the biggest target against sabotage in the entire OT-Community since it's such a major threat to every server hoster that can't fight with quality but instead try to eliminate threats by physical attacks.
Compensation:
However, due to the troubles, we have decided a little compensation is in place.
We have added 2 days of golden account to everyone!
We will continue to watch the stability of our networks as RetroCores will grow to make sure the game stay smooth to our players!
